Design and Construction Supervision of Shongweni 6ML Reinforced Concrete Reservoir and Ancillary Works
  • The design and construction supervision of a reinforced concrete reservoir with a capacity of 6 Mℓ.
  • Reservoir inlet and outlet pipework design.
  • The design and installation of subsoil drainage.
  • Locating a suitable site for the proposed reservoir.
  • Modelling of the Georgedale, Hammarsdale, Shongweni, Zwelibomvu to Ofudu, including the supply to Clifton Elevated Tower, bulk supply mains.
  • Sizing, design and construction of a bypass past the reservoir to supply water directly from Georgedale Reservoir to Zwelibomvu Reservoir if necessary.
  • The telemetry, control valves and meters on both the inlet and outlet pipelines, with their associated chambers on the existing reservoirs, were upgraded to suit the increased capacity.

Job created: 17 Jobs (9 Men and 8 Women)

Women employed: 8 Women

Youth employed: 12 young people were employed. In addition, a skills programme covering the following trades was offered to 20 local youth:

  • Basic firefighting
  • First aid
  • Welding
  • Scaffolding
  • TLB driver
  • Brick laying
  • Working on heights
  • Health and safety

Project output: Completed designs, drawings, specifications, procurement document and technical reports, Construction Supervision and commissioning
