PROJECTS
Ashburton Upgrade

This transformative upgrade initiative, spearheaded by SANRAL, aims to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow and service levels, as well as strengthen connectivity for surrounding communities. Being part of the South African Government’s Strategic Integrated Projects (SIP2) strategy, this project is expected to accommodate an increased number of freight vehicles traveling from the Port of Durban to Gauteng Province.
KEY FEATURES
- The project incorporates innovative materials and engineering solutions to ensure long-lasting, high-quality infrastructure:
- CRCP: A rigid pavement layer that is durable and the perfect solution for high traffic volumes and heavy motor vehicles.
- Bond Coats: Tack that incorporates nano technology to improve adhesion and shear strength between the concrete substrate and the Asphalt interlayer or wearing course.
- SMA: A stone-to-stone contact interlayer that has high resistance to deformation/ rutting, premature cracking and ravelling.
- BROAG: A stone skeleton functional wearing course with high resistance to fatigue cracking, porous to minimize surface run-off and noise reduction.
JOBS CREATED: To date, the project has created over 293 Local jobs, which currently includes 29 women and 107 youth (18 to 35 years of age, both Females and Males), driving socio-economic upliftment and empowering the local communities.
